Honors 8th Grade Good Deed Assignment

Wait. . . So what do I have to do?

1.  Do something nice for someone who isn't related to you, someone who isn't paying you, and someone who actually wants your help.

2.  Have some sort of proof that you actually did the thing you're saying you did.  Examples:  have them sign the form, get a certificate of appreciation, have someone take a picture that proves you did it.
3.  Write a 5 paragraph essay telling about your Good Deed experience.

5 whole paragraphs??? What do I write about?

Paragraph 1:  A general introduction.  Explain what Good Deeds are, why they are important, stuff like that.

Paragraph 2:  Describe, in detail, what you actually did.  Go through the entire process.

Paragraph 3:  Out of everything you could have chosen, why did you choose this Good Deed? (It's okay to be honest!)   How did you feel about the Good Deed?  Did you enjoy the experience?  Did you hate it?  Explain why you felt this way.  If you had the opportunity, would you do it again?  Why or why not?  (Again, it's okay to be honest!)

Paragraph 4:  How did this Good Deed have long lasting benefit for someone else?  Basically, prove that what you did qualifies as a Good Deed?  How did you improve someone else's life by doing this thing?

Paragraph 5:  Conclusion.  Sum up the experience and bring it to a close.

And I can do more for extra credit?  50 points each?

Yes.   Once you have turned in your first Good Deed, which will count as the required one that gets entered in May, you can do more Good Deeds for bonus points.  You will do the same thing that you did for the first one - have proof and write an essay. (Yes, you need a different essay each time.)  You also need to do something different each time.  So, if your first Good Deed was helping at the Animal Shelter, you need to do something different for the second one.  That's not to say you shouldn't keep helping at the Animal Shelter, it just means you only get credit for it once.)

What happens if I don't do a Good Deed by May 18?

That would be bad.  It's worth 300 points, which is a large portion of your grade.  Your grade will probably drop by at least a letter grade.  And no, you CANNOT TURN IT IN LATE!!!
But really, you have an entire school year to do one nice thing.  It really shouldn't be that hard.
